For any field, once you understand it, you will find it easy, but if you don't, it will be difficult. Similarly, reading football betting odds online can be challenging for new players in understanding and interpreting the various odds. However, before placing a bet, players only need to spend time and seriously learn the following ways of reading odds by
wintips to become professional betting experts.
How to read Asian handicap odds
Asian handicap odds, also known as 1X2 with three different options for results: Team 1 wins / Team 2 wins / Both teams draw.
For example, in a match between France and Iran, these two teams have a considerable difference, so the odds of winning money are also different. If the player chooses the 1 bet for France, and France wins, the player will be paid according to the odds given by the bookmaker. Conversely, if the player places a bet on Iran, and Iran wins, the player will also receive the corresponding winnings according to the given odds.
How to read Asian Handicap odds
This type of betting is different from European Handicap odds because Asian Handicap odds only offer odds for the favorite or the underdog, without a draw option. You can only bet on one of the two teams.
The stronger team will be on the favorite side and will give a handicap to the weaker team (underdog) by a certain number of goals, which is called the betting odds. There are different betting odds for Asian Handicap as follows:
Draw handicap (0 handicap)
The draw handicap, also known as the level ball handicap, means that neither team has a handicap. Therefore, if the two teams finish with any draw score, the player neither wins nor loses, and the bookmaker will refund the amount that the player placed on the bet. However, if one of the teams has a higher score, the player who placed the bet on that team will win the bet.
For example, if France plays against England, the football bettor will fall into one of the following three cases:
If the match ends in a draw, the player who bet on either team will get their money back.
If France wins and the player bet on France, the player will win the bet and receive the payout according to the odds set by the bookmaker. If the player bet on England, the player will lose the bet.
If England wins and the player bet on England, the player will win the bet according to the bookmaker's odds. Conversely, those who bet on France will lose their entire bet.
0.25 handicap
In this betting odds, one team will give a 0.25 handicap to the other team. The team giving the handicap is called the favorite team and the other team is the underdog. The symbols that bookmakers often use for this betting odds in each match are 0.0, -0.5 for the favorite team and 0.0, +0.5 for the underdog team. There are three possible outcomes for this betting odds.
If the two teams draw: The player who chooses the upper team (handicap team) loses half of the bet, while the one who chooses the lower team wins half of the bet. If the upper handicap team loses or draws with the lower team: The player who chooses the upper team loses the entire bet. The player wins the bet when choosing the upper handicap team and they win against the opposing team, and the winner receives the full bet amount according to the odds of the bookmaker, and vice versa, the underdog team loses, and those who choose the underdog team will also win the entire bet.
Half ball handicap - 0.5 handicap
Similar to the Asian handicap, the upper handicap team gives half ball to the lower handicap team. There are 3 possible outcomes for football betting.
If the two teams draw at the end of the match: The player who chooses the upper team (handicap team) loses half of the bet, while the one who chooses the lower team wins half of the bet.
If the upper team wins by at least one goal difference, the player who chooses that team wins the entire bet according to the odds of the bookmaker. The underdog team loses, and those who choose the underdog team will win the full bet amount.
You will lose all your money if you choose the upper handicap team but they draw or lose against the opposing team.
Three-quarter ball handicap - 0.75 handicap
The upper handicap team gives three-quarter ball to the lower handicap team. In this case, the player needs to understand that the upper handicap team must win the lower handicap team by a certain number of goals to win. Handicap 1 ball draw
In this case, the upper handicap team gives one ball to the lower handicap team. If the upper handicap team scores two or more goals, they will win the bet, just like how a 0.75 handicap is calculated. The player only wins the bet when the upper handicap team has a goal difference of more than two goals against the lower handicap team. If the upper handicap team draws or loses, the player who bets on them will lose their bet.
These ways of reading the handicap are also applied similarly to other types of handicaps such as 1.5 ball handicap, 1.25 ball handicap, and 2 ball handicap.
How to read Over/Under odds in football
Over/Under odds, also known as O/U in English, represent the total number of goals that both teams score at the end of the match. The player betting on Over/Under does not need to care about which team wins or loses, but only needs to focus on the total number of goals scored in a match.
If the player chooses Over, they bet on the total number of goals scored in the match to be greater than the predicted number given by the bookmaker. If they choose Under, they bet on the total number of goals scored to be less than the predicted number. If the total number of goals scored in the match is equal to the predicted number, it is considered a draw, and the player will receive their bet back.
